Brian Resnick is a partner in Davis Polk & Wardwell's Insolvency and Restructuring Group. He has substantial experience in a broad range of corporate restructurings and bankruptcies, representing debtors, creditors, banks, hedge funds, asset acquirers and other strategic parties in connection with bankruptcy cases, out-of-court workouts and exchange offers, DIP and exit financings, bankruptcy litigation and section 363 sales. Recent significant representations in the coal industry include representing Arch Coal, James River Coal and Patriot Coal, as well as creditors of Peabody Energy, Alpha Natural Resources, Walter Energy and Xinergy. Mr. Resnick is regularly recognized as an up and coming leader in the restructuring field, including by Chambers USA, IFLR 1000, Super Lawyers, Turnarounds & Workouts and Law360. Resnick's promotion to partner in July 2011 led to a Wall Street Journal profile chronicling his transition from Juilliard-trained professional musician (with performances in 14 Broadway musicals, on “Saturday Night Live” and with artists ranging from Art Garfunkel to Luciano Pavorotti) to partner in one of the world's top insolvency and restructuring practices. Mr. Resnick received a B.M. and M.M. from The Juilliard School, and his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a member of the Columbia Business Law Review. He is a Contributing Author to Collier on Bankruptcy, and a frequent, author, lecturer and panelist on a broad range of bankruptcy and restructuring topics.
