Holly Bender is a Deputy Director of the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign. Holly leads the strategic work of the campaign in nine Midwestern states, and helps develop regional and national campaign strategy focused on reducing our nation's reliance on aging coal-fired plants and replacing them with clean energy. The Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign was described in Rolling Stone Magazine as "the most successful campaign the environmental movement has seen in more than a decade." The campaign combines grassroots organizing, expert communications work, legal advocacy, and state and national policy work to build unique campaigns in hundreds of communities around the country. Holly graduated Suma cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Political Science and a certificate in International Relations. She graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law with Honors, and is the recipient of the Rose Bird Award for Professionalism and Integrity. Before becoming Deputy Director, Holly was an Associate Attorney with the Sierra Club's Environmental Law Program. Holly is originally from Vermont, and now lives in Madison, WI.
