Andy Coles

With a background in engineering, Andy Coles has worked on a diverse range of mining and construction projects across Australia and South East Asia for more than 35 years. He has 25 years of experience in the construction sector having started as an engineer with QWRC Australia building dams, power stations and embankment works. Andy went on to become involved in a number of major projects, including pump installation on the Mekong River in Laos, 400 MW Khao Laem Hydroelectric Project in Thailand and the Rompin Endau Dam Projects in Malaysia. His first project in Indonesia was the 9 MBCM Kedung Ombo Dam in Central Java. Andy's career with Thiess in Indonesia began in 1997 with the Telco project in Central Java before moving to the Balambano Dam in South Sulawesi, followed by the BHP-Thiess Alliance in Satui and Senakin. His next assignment was to establish and expand the Supply Chain Department to support the company's mining operations. Since 2008, Andy has been the Executive Manager of Business Development and Estimating at Thiess Contractors Indonesia, responsible for the company's growth and development in Indonesia. His recent contract wins include Bayan's Melak Coal Mine, BHP Billiton's Lahai Coal (IndoMet) Construction, Tamtama Perkasa Mining Services and Sago Prima Pratama (J-Resources) Seruyung Gold Development.
