THE LAST GREAT COAL RESERVE IN THE WORLD

This year sees some very exciting developments in the Southern African coal dynamic and, as ever, Coaltrans will be there to mark the occasion. Billed as perhaps the ‘last great coal reserve in the world’, Mozambique’s Tete Province is reported to hold at least 2.5 billion tonnes of coal. These coking (and some thermal) coal deposits bring a whole new angle to the region’s export potential, and with parallel development in the country’s freight infrastructure and coal terminals producers have an increasing number of options for shipping and for serving the seemingly insatiable demand of India and other parts of Asia.

SOUTH AFRICA: OLD CHALLENGES, NEW SOLUTIONS

Framed in the light of a predicted 300mt shortfall in supply of thermal coal to India in 2011, the primacy of exports from South Africa and the opportunity this presents to the industry cannot be understated. This begs some vital questions: how will the dynamic between domestic and export coal play out? How much private investment will there be in Transnet and how quickly will capacity rise to reach demand at Richard’s Bay? At Coaltrans Mozambique/South Africa delegates will hear answers to these questions and many others besides.

VISION OF THINGS TO COME

Coaltrans Mozambique/South Africa will see involvement from the very highest level of industry and government, as key players and ministers present their vision of Mozambique’s place in a new Southern African energy matrix as well as how South Africa will go on increasing its presence in the international seaborne thermal coal trade.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

As well as focussing on the major projects being undertaken in Mozambique, South Africa and neighbouring states, the conference will also highlight new opportunities to be had across the region, particularly answering such questions as: is there scope for international partnership in Southern Africa? Are lower CV products becoming more marketable?

NETWORKING

As well as a stellar line-up of speakers, Coaltrans Mozambique/South Africa presents unparalleled opportunities for networking across the industry, and with a series of networking receptions supported kindly by our sponsors along with excellent opportunities to showcase your company within the conference centre itself, the event promises ample prospects to get your name and your brand into the forefront of the industry.

We at Coaltrans look forward to welcoming you to this exciting new event, thank-you for your support.
